Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions asked that may provide for you a better understanding when booking your massage session.

Q: How can massage therapy help with chronic back pain and stiffness from desk work?

A: For adults in their 30s to 50s, long hours at a desk often lead to "postural fatigue." Our targeted deep tissue and myofascial release techniques focus on realigning muscle fibers and increasing blood flow to stagnant areas. This reduces the chronic stiffness in the lower back and neck that common stretching alone cannot reach.

Q: How often should I get a massage for long-term tension relief?
A: To effectively manage chronic pain and prevent tension from returning, we typically recommend a "maintenance" schedule of one session every 2 to 4 weeks. This frequency allows the nervous system to remain calm and prevents the muscle "knots" (trigger points) common in active professionals from hardening. More acute or disruptive conditions may require more frequent sessions to break the neuromuscular patterning loop. Your therapist will recommend based on the health of your muscle tissues and response to the initial treatment.

Q: Is deep tissue massage supposed to be painful?
A: While deep tissue work involves heavier pressure and depth to reach deeper muscle layers, it should never be unbearable. We utilize a "therapeutic discomfort" scale, ensuring the pressure is deep enough to release chronic tension without causing your body to tense up in response. Communication is key to ensuring a productive, pain-reducing session.

Q: Is Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage right for me?

A: It depends! There are several contraindications for Ashiatsu that your therapist will discuss with you while going over your intake form. If you do not possess any of the following contraindications, you are more than likely cleared for Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage.

In general, If you have had a surgery, a bone break or fracture within the last 6 months, or have received any injections of Botox, corticosteroid, or nerve block within the last 6 weeks, it is best to schedule afterward. If you have spondylolithesis or any spondy-related condition, please provide clearance from your doctor for Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage. If you have uncontrolled high blood pressure or heart condition that increased heart rate and increased circulation could aggravate.  Any Autoimmune Disorders (such as lupus, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, etc) or Lyme disease and even Tuberculosis would best be served by an oncologist.

It is important to provide accurate and current health history when filling out your intake form so your therapist can work accordingly to provide you the most effective session with accommodations.
